The June 2027 issue of Developments will focus on the use of children’s literature in higher education particularly in student-facing roles in academic and student affairs. In an attempt to think creatively about ways to approach our work and learning, we are seeking manuscripts of no more than 1,500 words. Submissions should include the following:
- Title of your article
- Citation. Example: Sendak, M. (1963). Where the wild things are. Harper and Row.
- Abstract
- How the text applies to higher education
- How the text might be used with students, staff, or faculty
- Your Connection to the Text
- How did you first engage with the book?
- What does this book mean to you personally?
- Discuss personal connection to the text.
- Overview of the Book

- Plot
- Background of the author – if relevant
- Themes, messages, and takeaways of the book

- Application to Higher Education
- How would you suggest that the book be used in higher education?
- Possibilities include common reading for students, staff development, onboarding for new staff, undergraduate student leadership course, connection to student development or other theories in grad programs
- Include not just when to use it, but how it might be implemented and what the intended goals of using the text are
- Discussion Questions
- What are key points of learning or reflection based on the book and what might engagement around those ideas look like?
- Provide 3-5 reflection questions related to the text.
- Author Biography – name, pronouns, and 1-2 brief sentences.
